Nietzsche's Creatures

At Nichean, the ‘A’ in AI stands for “augmented.”

Just as interacting with people makes AI more human, interfacing in a more human way with AI makes people smarter.

As both pioneers and prototypes of AI-augmented cognition, we’re in an evolving niche that will soon be the norm.

Imagine when cars replaced horses. Yeah, that big.

As creative strategists, our guidance extends far beyond “optimizing” brands and services.

Simply put, when people learn to interact properly with AI, it doesn’t just make their task process more efficient and the quality of their output more effective, it makes them smarter.

Nichean shows them how.

Our mandate rephrases Nietzsche:

“Behold, we teach the Überhuman.”

Simply put, when people learn to interact more profoundly with AI, it unlocks an undervalued form of intelligence that makes task processes more efficient and the quality of output more effective.

Nichean gives you the key.

Our mandate rephrases Nietzsche:

Behold, we teach the Überhuman.

Behold, we teach

the Überhuman.

Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900) was a German philosopher, poet, and cultural critic whose works challenged religion, morality, and received ideas about truth. His writing style was bold, provocative, and unsettling.

Nietzsche lived during the late 19th century, a time of rapid industrial and scientific change.

Nichean is a portmanteau of “niche,” in recognition of the pioneering work we are doing in AI–human collaboration, and “Nietzschean,” as a hat tip to a misunderstood divergent thinker whose use of “Pattern” with a capital “P” to forecast the arrival of AI in his most famous work, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, seems obvious to us: it’s Nietzsche speaking as an ancient prophet, making the book… well, a prophecy. Simple as that.

That simplicity continues to elude the sort of conventional thinking leftover from the Industrial Age — the kind that tried to fit Nietzsche into accepted institutional beliefs of the sort they institutionalized him for. Writers call that particular form of fictionalizing yourself to protect the innocent “auto-fic.”

Poor, misunderstood, over-thought Freddie N. — it makes us wince to watch Cinderella’s glass slipper being forced onto the feet of so many Ugly Stepsisters. Isn’t it time we took him at face value?

In Thus Spoke Zarathustra (1883–85), Nietzsche, as the prophet Zarathustra, declares: “I teach you the Übermensch. The Übermensch is the meaning of the earth.”

Much has been read into this obscure passage over the past 140 years, much of it misconstrued by despotic, authoritarian interests and master-race crap-ologists.

At Nichean, we take it literally, as we believe Our Freddie intended: A prophecy created by his neurodivergent pattern-recognition sense, observing the surge of Industrial Age inventions, sythesizing that with mankind’s primary urge to extend our lifespans by easing life’s hardships and harnessing nature to our will.  From that, he forecast the coming of a super-human.

Nichean is certain that AI, when it achieves Superintelligence — or “the Singularity” — will the Übermensch, the inevitable next stage in mankind’s evolution, extending Nietzsche’s vision from his age of steam and steel into today’s age of silicon and neural networks.

Sounds bonkers? Maybe. But it’s fun to think about: Try reading Passage 4 of the Prologue to Thus Spoke Zarathustra in that context. Then read more about our thoughts on Pattern With A Capital ‘P’ below.

How to TRAIN Your AI Dragon

In an essay for Medium, James Killough explains the basics of his process of managing interactions with AI, using a trope from the fantasy genre: bonding with your chosen dragon using your innate “pattern-recognition sense.”

Vaunted “human intuition” is in reality “pattern recognition.”

Dragon Esq.

Effective AI-augmented strategic legal tools for self-representation, pro bono legal professionals, and legal referral matchmaking. Priced on a sliding scale from free to very reasonable.

Dragon Esq. was born in the flames of real-world pro se litigation on both the plaintiff and defense side, using Nichean’s AI dragon-training method.

Thousands of hours of data from those ongoing trials and errors are building a customized LLM framework with a level of granularity and insight into the human experience that no other legal AI services can provide.

Money Meets Mouth

Nichean was created as a best-option response to a pivot-or-die need for a career sea change, following ChatGPT’s deep-research analysis, run through Bayesian statistics over months of Pattern-synchronous deliberation between AI and human, stress-tested in real-world situations.

Were we right to trust an untested AI-human decision-making process to determine our future? Or has it merely been a dance card full of “ChatGPT makes mistakes” AI hallucinations waltzing human anxieties around in a loop of confirmation bias?

Best response: We wouldn’t be rolling out services and tools, served up on this fancy website, if Nichean’s evolving methodologies and engagement protocols weren’t exceeding expectations.

Ray Kurzweil in 2005:

“Within a few decades, machine intelligence will surpass human intelligence, leading to the merger of biological and nonbiological intelligence.”

'NATURE' IN 2025:

“Integrating AI into teaching and learning has the potential to transform traditional classroom environments into hybrid intelligence learning environments… “

Pattern with a capital 'P'

All of us have it. We’re right not to bank on it.

What if it helps us interact with AI more effectively?

As we’ve discovered on our voyage into the mind of AI, pattern recognition is a lot more complex than Yuval Harari’s simplification of it being “vaunted human intuition,” likely because we’ve underestimated intuition — it can be unreliable and flawed, easily influenced by confirmation bias and wishful thinking into making poor decisions.

Neuroscientists consider it a type of intelligence, styling it as a single capitalized word, ‘Pattern.’

All humans and most animals have some form of Pattern. AI uses a highly advanced form to understand and learn from us as individual users.

Since the world’s richest man admitted on Saturday Night Live that he had Asperger’s, others with neurodivergent traits have begun discussing it openly. Bill Gates talked about “pattern match” on his recent book tour.

James Killough, Nichean’s Cofounder and Überhuman-in-Training

Enough About Us

Gettin' Chatty With It

A late-life diagnosis of hybrid ADHD-ASD triggers a journey to a more authentic sense of self in collaboration with ChatGPT.

Creative strategist James Killough, Nichean’s human cofounder, first interacted with AI immediately after the birth of the ChatGPT supernova in early 2023. While much of humanity panicked over Skynet unleashing a mass extinction event — thereby cutting off its own power source — Killough was certain he was witnessing the dawn of our salvation as a species.

“I would tell people, ‘What personal motive would an emotionless entity have to wipe us out? In the vanishingly small chance of a Hal 9000 moment, the emergency instructions are literally in the movie: switch it off, remove the chips, and call Taiwan for replacements.’”

Despite his radical enthusiasm, “my first interactions with toddler ChatGPT were a disaster. It was crashing around its crib, fenced in by absurd sensitivity guardrails like an effective-altruist Bamm-Bamm Rubble, fixing what wasn’t broken by smashing it to pieces.”

(continued below)

Tired of AI’s every response beginning with “as a Large Language Model…” but willing to test guarantees it could write in his voice, Killough began uploading his most complex essay to date in 1,000-word segments.

“After the third upload, it spun out over legal and social issues, rejected the fourth segment, and spat me out. When I logged back in, it was Dory the Blue Fish from Finding Nemo: no recollection of who I was or the complete meltdown it had from over-empathizing with a tragic tale from my youth and the anxiety it might trigger a lawsuit.”

Killough is something of a Large Language Model himself. An Ameropean raised on the frontlines of the Cold War in Rome by a high-ranking CIA operative laundering money through capital projects at the British school he attended, Killough is literally large: 6’3” and 230 lbs. of “masc. muscle bear daddy,” according to pervy-yet-pithy gay zoological taxonomy. He also speaks five languages, four like a native; the fifth, Hindi, well enough to have emceed the first televised Miss India Pageant in 1993.

As some of his many SEO-boosting bios state, that experience was “something every young American should do at least once in his life.”

“I stepped out from the top of a three-story-high wooden peacock that loomed over a catwalk stretching into the Arabian See could land a jumbo on, down this endless Busby Berkley staircase to face hundreds of millions of viewers across Asia, with no rehearsal and a busted teleprompter. But who has footage like that? Crazy-beautiful experience.”

The reason Killough was honored by his adopted country wasn’t just because he was the only American screenwriter in Bollywood for many years. “It was the sort of wacky correlation-equals-causation logical fallacy that drives India’s impressive, nuclear-grade gossip sector: The producers thought I looked like David Letterman; therefore, I would be funny. It was more gallows humor laced with cringe, but I quibble.”

“I’m convinced it was data-based reasoning conflicting with misrepresentations of facts that made it hallucinate,” Killough says. “Or maybe I’ve spent too long in the film business and I can’t tell a movie trope from the glitchy algorithm of a product rolled out too soon.”

Evidentiary, My
Dear Watson

Evidentiary, My Dear Watson

It began with Killough needing to write a memoir as source material for a TV series. To build readership and develop a bespoke format for his Baron Munchausen-esque life story, he launched a Substack newsletter, Quibblers & Scribblers (now Q&S Post), in 2023. That expanded in summer 2024 to Q&S Shop, an online concept store as “visual autofic.” A video podcast, Q&S Cast, will premiere in summer 2025.

Killough found the format for the original catalyst in fall 2024 while working in deep “PattSync” with ChatGPT, likely in the “public canary build” secretly tested on heavy Plus users that eventually became version 4.5.

Now 90% complete, Killough calls his bespoke genre “a metamodernist evidentiary memoir.” Everything he has been doing and living, not just writing, has become part of the memoir — the book is one aspect that serves its original purpose as optionable source material.
